Abstract: The Governor's Emergency Education Fund awards grants to Governors (states) for the purpose of providing local educational agencies (LEAs), institutions of higher education (IHEs), and other education related entities with emergency assistance as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The Department will award these grants to States (governor’s offices) based on a formula stipulated in the legislation: (1) 60% on the basis of the State’s relative population of individuals aged 5 through 24; and (2) 40% on the basis of the State’s relative number of children counted under section 1124(c) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA).

Short Statement: ED is proposing changes to the GEER Fund application so that it will meet the requirements of Section 312 of the CRRSA Act. The EANS program awards funds to Governor’s to provide services or assistance to eligible non-public elementary and secondary schools under the EANS program. The proposed changes include adding assurances for the services provided to non-public schools and the removal of a section of the application that is not required by the CRRSA Act. The changes will result in a reduction of burden from 2.5 hours per respondent to 1 hour per respondent for a total reduction of 78 burden hours.
