Abstract: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) requests the approval of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for an extension of the existing collection of information under OMB Control Number 0648-0323 for Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Tournament Registration and Reporting. Fishing tournaments are defined as any fishing competition in which participants must register or otherwise enter or in which a prize or award is offered for catching or landing fish. Regulations at 50 CFR part 635.5(d) require that all fishing tournaments targeting HMS that are conducted out of ports in Atlantic coastal states, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, must register with NMFS at least four weeks prior to the start of the event. These events must also report their catch and fishing effort, as measured by the number of participating vessels per day, by the seventh day following conclusion of the event.
